RJC — Responsible Business Policy

Responsible Business Policy

Since it’s beginning in 2015 JAM Jewels Inc., has built a business based on the values of creation, environment and sustainable business. As a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), JAM shares its corporate social responsibility ethics with its employees, contractors and supply chain participants, ensuring the best contribution to sustainable development in]the jewellery business.

JAM Jewels Inc. is a family owned business, and Jessica Ilitzky Lombrozo, the owner has been in the world of jewellery for more than 15 years. JAM is a manufacturer and wholesale distributor of jewellery, and in particular Colombian emeralds, sapphire and rubies. From gem quality individual stones, to fine layouts, and large or small parcels, the company stocks an extensive inventory to meet the specialized needs of a global clientele.  The business is driven by our commitment to provide clients with precious stones that suit their style.

We maintain close relationships with Gubelin, GRS, SSEF, AGL, GIA, and other internationally recognized laboratories. Detailed gemological reports confirming origin and treatment accompany our fine and gem-quality stones. We can send any stone for certification at any time and we can refurbish, re cut, and/or re polish stones.  All such cases are reviewed to assure any modifications will not compromise the durability of the jewel before we proceed.

We joined the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) to be recognized for ethical and sustainable action. We have committed to the RJC Code of Practices with respect to sourcing of materials.

Responsible Employment:

JAM Jewels Inc. values diversity and promotes equal opportunities in recruitment, employment, development and retention. In doing so, the company provides a safe, healthy, fair and inspiring workplace through a culture of strong values and teamwork. The company takes time to train its employees on RJC’s Code of Practices and ensure that their knowledge is supplemented with semi-annual updates. The company believes in respecting human rights and has a Human Rights Commitment posted to this web location. As well the company is committed to zero tolerance for bribery and facilitation payments and has a posted policy on the same.

Responsible Sourcing:

Grievance Procedure

Grievance Procedure:

There is a simple form (below) which can be drawn down from the company internal site which highlights the type of grievance, requests for information and rights , requests for assistance,   a provision for supplementing or cancelling the grievance, and a process to proceed.

The process will be co-developed with staff members, and contractors, and reviewed and improved at semi-annual training and review meetings.

Most grievance procedures require unbiased consultation and information. Consultation allows the grieving member to better understand their grievance and its validity.  With better information about the issue the grievance can proceed.

The company has appointed an independent professional familiar with the RJC Code of Practices and subject to a professional code of ethics as a Designated Reasonable Accommodation (DRA) contact to field initial grievance issues for the staff or contractors.

For example a grievance over discrimination on the basis of disability, if it could not be first be solved easily and internally, would be forwarded to the New York State authorities that deal with accessibility discrimination at its.sm.accessibility@its.ny.gov .

In extreme cases, any grievance of a criminal manner will be dealt with under applicable NYC, NYS or US law.

it is prohibited for the company to retaliate against whistleblowers

 OUR COMMITMENT TO PREVENT BRIBERY

JAM recognizes that bribery damages a companies integrity and degrades the business environment overall.   The company is committed to prevent any and all forms of corruption and bribery payments .

For clarity JAM has committed to the RJC Code of Practice which stipulates that, “bribery means giving or offering (as well as demanding or receiving) any undue advantage to (or from):

• a public or government official (politically exposed persons);

• a political candidate, party or official; or

• any private sector employees, directors or officers, or their agents or representatives.

Corruption is any unlawful or improper behavior that seeks to gain a private advantage through illegitimate means. Any kind of bribery is a form of corruption; but corruption also includes abuse of power, extortion, fraud, deception, collusion, cartels, embezzlement and money laundering.  Employees include both directly employed workers that have contracts with the RJC member and indirectly employed workers that regularly work at members’ sites and that have employment contracts with a third party, such as a labor agent, labor provider or contractor/subcontractor.  Facilitation payments are sums of money paid to get preferential treatment for something the receiver is otherwise still required to do, for example, paying an official to speed up, or ‘facilitate’, an authorization process.”
